Day 1: Santiago - Easter Island (Sunday) Arrive in Mataveri Airport,
transfer to Otai Hotel |
Day 2: Easter Island Half day excursion to visit Ahu Akivi, the site of the 7 moais facing the sea; the red scoria quarry at Puna Pau, where the red stone hats”Pukao” were made, and the caves of Ana Te Pahu. Afternoon at leisure. |
Day 3: Easter Island Half-day tour visiting Rano Kau volcano which has an amazing crater of 2 km diameter. Nearby is the ceremonial site of Orongo, noted for its petroglyphs carved in the basalt rock, and where the traditional birdman ritual, Tangata Manu, was held every year. Remainder of the day at leisure. |
Day 4: Easter Island Full day tour visiting Vinapu, whose construction bears great similarity to that of Inca Peru, and Rano Raraku, the quarry “factory” of nearly 1,000 moais which are now spread throughout the island. Visit Ahu Tongariki, an altar recently restored that includes 16 moais of impressive size. Picnic lunch at Anakena Beach where we found 2 important altars: Ahu Nau-Nau and Ahua Ature Huki. You will have the opportunity to swim or sunbathe on this, the most beautiful beach of the island. |
| Day 5: Easter Island-Santiago After breakfast, time to have another walk in town before your transfer to the airport for the flight to Santiago. |
