     TOUR CH-03 Lauca National Park and Surire Salt Flat
 

Itinerary

Day 1: Arica. Arrive in Arica and transfer to your hotel. Stay for 1 night at El Paso Hotel.

Day 2: Arica - Putre. During the morning visit to Azapa Archaeological Museum, containing artefacts and mummies from the Chinchorro culture. You will also have the opportunity to view the valley’s important geoglyphs. Time for lunch (not included). In the afternoon leave for Putre. As you begin to climb into the Andes, there are impressive canyon views. En route we visit the small village of Socoroma, then to continue to Putre located at an altitude of 3,500 m. Dinner and overnight at Qantati Hotel.

Day 3: Putre, Surire Salt Flat. After breakfast, leave for the Surire Salt Flat. Driving south along the Andean plateau, enter Las Vicuñas National Reserve, with impressive views of the Guallatire Volcano (6,063m). Arrive at the salt flat which was declared a national monument, in order to protect the native fauna including three types of flamingo. Picnic lunch in the area. In the afternoon return to Putre. Dinner and overnight at Qantati hotel.

Day 4: Putre, Arica. Departure for Lauca National Park. The first stop is at Chungara Lake, located at 4,550 m/14,924 feet, making it the highest in the world. The lake offers a great number and variety of birds and the area is also home to Andean camels : llamas, alpacas, vicuñas and guanacos. Visit Parinacota, a picturesque hamlet which is today inhabited only during the carnival and religious feasts. Lunch is included. Late in the afternoon return to Arica. Stay for 1 night at El Paso Hotel.

Day 5: Arica. After breakfast transfer to the airport to board your onward flight
